We are thrilled to announce the upcoming Legacy Marching Invitational, taking place on September 26th, 2026, at the esteemed Everett Field @ Hornet Stadium. This event offers an exciting opportunity for marching bands from across the region to showcase their talent in a supportive and competitive environment.

In alignment with the format of other early-season contests, bands will not be required to present a complete show. Instead, adjudication will focus on the quality and execution of what is performed, rather than the amount of show material on the field. This allows bands the flexibility to participate fully, regardless of the current stage of their show development.

The invitational will feature a comprehensive set of awards, including ratings for all participating bands, classification awards, caption awards, and overall awards. Our panel of judges is composed of experienced professionals from both regional and national levels, ensuring fair and insightful evaluations.

Our primary goal is to provide a positive and enriching experience for both students and directors, fostering growth and camaraderie within the Central Arkansas marching band community.

Contest Registration Details:

Registration Fee: $300.00
Limited Availability: Registration is limited to the first 25 bands that complete payment.
Competition Format: The event will use a "one run" format. This is different from the 2024 season.
Judging Specifics: Music, visual, color guard, and percussion sections will be judged.
Please note that registration will close as soon as the limit of 25 bands is reached. We encourage interested bands to secure their spot promptly.

ADJUDICATORS

Barry Trobaugh, Retired Munford High School Band Director (Music)

Barry Trobaugh is a retired music educator and was Director of Bands at Munford High School in Munford Tennessee.  His bands have been recognized for their outstanding performances through marching band, concert ensembles, and jazz ensembles. Among the awards, Munford is the USBands 2011 National Champions, three-time Southern States Champions, and three-time TN State Champions.  Most recently, the Munford Band has performed “coast to coast” with their 2015 “This is Elvis” presentation in the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade in NYC and the 2019 “The Music of Memphis” presentation in the Tournament of Roses Parade in Pasadena CA.  Barry has served as President of both the Regional and State Band Associations and continues to lead as the All State Chair for West TN School Band and Orchestra Association. Barry is a member of TnMEA, ASBDA, WTSBOA, Tennessee Bandmasters Association, and the Eta Chapter of Phi Beta Mu. Trobaugh’s work has been chronicled in the 2011 School Band and Orchestra Magazine as one of the “50 Directors Who Make a Difference” in the 2015 Tennessee Magazine, in Sharlene Habermeyer’s book:  Good Music, Brighter Children as well as the feature article in April 2018 issue of The Instrumentalist. Barry has been chosen twice as Teacher of the Year at Munford High School and was selected as a finalist for Tennessee Teacher of the Year in 2016. He has also been recognized twice by the CMA Foundation for his role as a leader in music education.

Jeff Beckman, TSU (Music)

Mr. Jeff Beckman currently serves as an adjunct music education faculty member at Tennessee State University and is the Executive Treasurer for the Middle Tennessee School Band and Orchestra Association (MTSBOA). He is the former director of bands and team leader for the Center for Creative Arts at McGavock High School in Nashville, Tennessee, where he led the band program for 27 years. Under his leadership, the McGavock Band earned 15 Tennessee State Marching Championships, 10 Contest of Champions Grand Championships, and multiple national honors, including Bands of America Grand National Finalist appearances and the prestigious Sudler Shield Award. The band also performed in major parades such as the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade and the Hollywood Christmas Parade. Mr. Beckman has been recognized as McGavock's Teacher of the Year and the Donelson-Hermitage Chamber of Commerce Educator of the Year. He has held numerous leadership roles within Tennessee music education associations, including Past President of the Tennessee Bandmasters Association, and remains active in professional organizations such as NBA, Phi Beta Mu, and NAfME.

Dr. Derek Stoughton, UCA (Music)

Dr. Derek Stoughton serves as Associate Director of Bands and Director of Athletic Bands at the University of Central Arkansas, where he directs the Bear Marching Band and Purple Rage Basketball Band, conducts the Symphonic Band, and teaches Music Education. Collegiate Experience: Previously served as Interim Director of Bands and Director of Athletic Bands at Southeastern Louisiana University, overseeing the Spirit of the Southland Marching Band, directing the Pep Band, conducting the Wind Symphony and Symphonic Band, and supervising student teachers.K–12 Background: Taught public school music and percussion in McKinney, Pflugerville, and Austin, TX. His ensembles consistently earned UIL Sweepstakes awards, and his percussion students reached Texas All-State Area levels.Composition & Publishing: Published by Murphy Music Press, DevMusic, and DCS Productions, arranging for Concert Band, Athletic Bands, Marching Percussion, and Percussion Ensemble.Education: D.M.A. in Wind Conducting & Literature (University of Colorado-Boulder), M.M. in Wind Conducting (Oklahoma State University), and B.M. in Music Education / Music Studies & Human Learning (UT Austin).Conducting Mentors: Primary teachers include Dr. Donald McKinney, Dr. Joseph Missal, and Dr. Robert Carnochan, with workshop study under Jerry Junkin, Dr. Kevin Sedatole, Steve Davis, Dr. Mallory Thompson, Dr. Cynthia Johnson Turner, Dr. Tom Caneva, and H. Robert Reynolds.Affiliations: Member of Kappa Kappa Psi and Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia; honorary member of Tau Beta Sigma.

Aaron Bounds, ECC (Visual)

Assistant Professor Aaron Bounds is in his sixteenth year as Director of Bands at East Central College. Aaron has also been an adjunct music instructor at St. Louis University as the director of their concert band for a decade. At East Central College he has taught World Music, Fundamentals of Music Theory, Music Appreciation, Low Brass private lessons, Jazz Combo, Jazz Band, and Concert Band. Aaron has also developed and taught Music Appreciation: The Age of Rock & Roll as well as Jazz Appreciation. In 2006, Aaron received his bachelor's degree in music education, and in 2008, he received his master's in music, both from Missouri State University in Springfield. Throughout his studies at Missouri State, Aaron performed with many ensembles, including MSU Jazz Band under the direction of Jerry Hoover, MSU Lab Band directed by Randall Hamm, MSU Wind Ensemble under Dr. Belva Prather, and the MSU Orchestra with Dr. Robert Quebbeman. During this time, Aaron also performed with the Madison Scouts Drum and Bugle Corps for two summers (2003, 2004). In 2015, Aaron worked with Gold Drum and Bugle Corps as a brass tech as well as visual assistance. Currently Aaron stays busy by balancing his local jazz combo, “Friends of Aaron,” his position as Director of Music Ministries for the Presbyterian Church of Washington, and his beautiful family: Emily (wife) and two sons, Carl and Theodore.

Dr. Taylor "TJ" Burks, ICCMS (Percussion)

Dr. Burks is a versatile percussionist, educator, and researcher currently serving as the Percussion Director and Assistant Band Director at Itawamba Community College in Fulton, Mississippi. An active clinician and performer, Dr. Burks is recognized as an official Marimba One Artist. His teaching and performing philosophies focus on expanding standard percussion repertoire by integrating diverse global traditions, including Trinidadian steel band and Afro-Cuban music. Dr. Burks holds a deep passion for percussive pedagogy and regular appearances as a clinician and adjudicator across the region.

Mark Moreno, Visual Designer (Visual)

Mark Moreno is a visual designer, drill writer, educator, and adjudicator with more than two decades of experience in the marching arts. Since the early 2000s, his work has included ensembles participating in Drum Corps International (DCI), Winter Guard International (WGI), Bands of America (BOA), and other competitive circuits across the country.

With extensive experience in both marching band and color guard, Mark specializes in visual design, staging, and program development. His approach integrates drill, choreography, musical structure, and production elements to create clear and cohesive visual programs. Throughout his career, he has collaborated with directors, designers, and instructional staff at a variety of competitive levels.

Mark’s experience within the marching arts also includes work as a clinician and adjudicator. His background as a designer informs an evaluation approach centered on design, composition, achievement, clarity of intent, and the relationship between musical and visual responsibilities.

Mark resides in Kerrville, Texas, and continues to work with ensembles and programs throughout the country as a visual designer and consultant.
